TOUR DESCRIPTION
A short drive from the port of Limassol will bring you to the old part of the city where you can explore at a relaxed pace. Begin at Syntagma square, viewing the Medieval Castle where Richard the Lionhearted married Berengaria of Navarre, crowning her queen of England.
See how the old carob mill across from the castle worked, before the advent of modern technology. See the old Turkish baths, an old mosque built on the foundations of an even older church, the old post office turned into the technical section of the town’s university and visit the restored agora lined with outlets selling from fresh produce, homemade delicacies to souvenirs and many other local products. The surrounding area is lined with small cafes and restaurants, very popular with the locals, especially the university students. You will taste a rose flavor ice cream and a small pita with a skewer of chicken souvlaki during your walk.
At Sea Sponges Exhibition Centre you will find a large variety of aromatic handmade soaps, olive oil products for skin and hair care, sea sponges and a myriad other local products. Old Limassol is full of shops and boutiques where you can browse and shop for clothes and shoes before you return to the ship.
